The title of this project, “Totem”, is crucial in defining our approach to this work. These mountains of objects moving in an unlikely, though possible way become the product and symbol of the global religion of consumerism. The photographer is not relating the human condition of the portrayed men-oxen. This is not a social commentary on the exploitation of work; rather, it is an ironic and amusing story about an Asian country—China (Shanghai)—in this case, that is in the process of revolutionizing itself and its origins on a purely Western model, with all of the consequences that follow.
The images have a graphic line, seeming to be almost miniature reconstructions of reality. Sharp and brilliant colors coexist with the ironic narrative of the creator. It is definitely a beautiful piece.
