Theses polaroids from “Casablanca” are timeless, they are a highly interior passage that has actually nothing to do with documenting a contemporary city. Marco Barbon has just walked around, without a goal, through the alleys and secret corners of this Marrocan metropolis. He has focused in some particulars of the French colonial architecture involving his images of vague memories and mute sounds. There is no trace of the loud and abundant sounds of the city or its inhabitants. These are purely evocative images, the human figure is either absent or distant, leaving the spectator the freedom to make up the past and future encounters linked to those places. Barbon has a degree in Philosophy, a masters in Theory of Arts, and a PhD in Aesthetics of Photography. Therefore it is not by chance that these images have a heavy cultural component as well as a formal and chromatic research that lives independently from the subject. In fact it is not the subject that awakes the biggest interest in these images, it only becomes an excuse to make up stories.
Le polaroid di “Casablanca” sono immagini fuori dal tempo, sono un percorso puramente interiore che non ha nulla a che vedere con la documentazione della città contemporanea. Marco Barbon ha camminato senza meta per i vicoli della metropoli marocchina, soffermandosi su alcuni dettagli di vecchie architetture francesi coloniali e avvolgendo le sue immagini di ricordi confusi e suoni ovattati. Non c’è traccia né dei rumori della città né delle persone che la abitano. Sono immagini puramente evocative: la figura umana o è assente od è distante, lasciando modo a chi guarda, di immaginarsi gli incontri passati e quelli futuri legati a quei luoghi. Nella carriera di questo artista c’è una laurea in filosofia, un master in Teoria delle Arti ed un dottorato di ricerca in Estetica della Fotografia. Non a caso dunque, queste immagini hanno una componente culturale molto forte; una ricerca cromatica e formale che vive separatamente dal soggetto. Non è infatti l’oggetto della foto a destare il maggior interesse, ma la maniera in cui esso diventa pretesto per costruirsi storie.
